MFM CHARTER FISHING AND EXPLORE
If you planning a northern Michigan vacation this spring, summer or fall, make sure that MFM Sport Fishing is apart of your trip. MFM is a fishing charter located in Cheboygan County Marina with optional pickup locations in Mackinac City and Mackinac Island. It is our goal to provide an excellent atmosphere, breathtaking views of the Mackinac Bridge from the water and as many reels as the fish will allow. Now, let’s talk about where else to explore during your visit to the Cheboygan area.
MFM’S TOP CHEBOYGAN PICKS
INLAND WATERWAY
Explore the longest chain of rivers and lakes in Michigan. Nearly 40 miles long from Cheboygan to Conway, with dynamic ecosystems and landscapes along the way. The Inland Waterway has multiple boat launch access points, state parks for camping, hundreds of cottage rentals, little towns for shopping, great dining and kayak/boat rentals to explore the chain. During fall, MFM Sport Fishing offers guided walleye fishing trips on Mullet and Burt Lake. You will create endless memories and new traditions on the Inland Waterway! We would know, we moved here to enjoy the relaxed pace, endless waterways to explore and of course…a thriving fishery!
HISTORIC MILL CREEK DISCOVERY PARK
This historic attraction sits on 600 acres and is filled with a little bit of everything from history to adventure! Witness the power of water by watching a live demonstration of a saw mill powered by a creek. Strap into a harness and zipline through the treetops or take your time at a slower speed hiking 3 miles of trails. Explore the various layers of the lush canopy on their five-story Treetop Discovery Tower. Other activities include; a hands on water power station, rock climbing wall, exhibits and play areas. Hours of fun for the entire family.
CHEBOYGAN CRIB LIGHTHOUSE
The Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse was constructed and lit in 1884 to mark the end of the dredged channel of the Cheboygan River. Initially, the lighthouse tender would have to row out daily to ensure the light stayed lit. In 1897, a small dwelling was built onto the lighthouse for the tender to take shelter during inclement weather. The lighthouse became automated in 1929 and was locally referred to as the “dummy lighthouse” as it did not require tending. In 1984 after some debate about its structural stability, the city convinced the U.S. Coast Guard to salvage and relocate to the tip of Gordon Turner Park where it sits today. The lighthouse is closely located to Cheboygan County Marina where MFM Sport Fishing is located. Swing by the marina and share a fishing tale or two!
CHEBOYGAN STATE PARK
Cheboygan State Park is located just east of downtown and situated on the shores of Lake Huron. They have a variety of lodging accommodations including a fully furnished lodge, modern camping, rustic cabins and even teepees! Relax while taking in the views of Lake Huron, hike the various trails or bring your kayak to explore Duncan Bay. And of course, great lakes fishing is the best around!
BOIS BLANC ISLAND
If you are looking to unplug from everything, hop on a ferry to Bois Blanc Island. With a population of 71, there are few amenities so prepare accordingly. Bois Blanc is located due north of Cheboygan in the Straits of Mackinac. There are various rental accommodations and multiple access points to the surrounding waterways. Lake Huron fishing is excellent! If you are looking for a true “up north” experience, look no further. Fish, hike, swim, observe animals, canoe or kayak! You will leave the island with many stories!
